The health and safety of our campers is our highest priority
This is a brief overview of our policies and standards for both counselors and campers alike- if you would like more detailed information, you can learn more by downloading the BaseCamp Handbook or contacting a member of our staff!
Behavior & Discipline Policy
The word “discipline” is derived from the word “disciple” which means to teach. Therefore, the purpose of discipline is to teach each camper an acceptable way to handle him or herself in various situations, with the goal being the ability of the camper to self-discipline. BaseCamp adheres to the principles of positive behavior interventions. As counselors, we will continue to teach and encourage camper’s behaviors consistent with the program’s Core Values to promote a safe and positive environment.
If campers choose behaviors that jeopardize our safe environment, they will be given verbal warnings and be encouraged to realign their behavior. Parents will be notified of any incidents regarding unacceptable behaviors of their camper(s) needing attention. For a more detailed outline of our behavioral policy, please see the BaseCamp Handbook.

Medical & Health Policies
Injuries & Emergencies
We understand that kids will be kids, and sometimes things happen! In the event of minor scrapes and abrasions, the counselor will administer basic first-aid by cleaning the area and applying a bandage. All accidents, regardless of their nature, will be recorded on an Incident Report which will be signed by the observing counselor and an administrator before the camper’s dismissal.
In the case of an emergency, a counselor may choose to call 911 before contacting a parent. In case of serious accident or injury (including ALL head injuries), the program will make an immediate attempt to contact the parent first, and then the emergency contact listed on your camper’s Emergency Information Record. If Emergency Room services are necessary, and the parents cannot be contacted, the camper will be taken by ambulance to the hospital designated on the Emergency Information Record. Parents are responsible for any medical or transport costs accrued.
Please be sure that all Emergency Contact information is up-to-date with our office, including additional Emergency Contact/s (after parents) and Authorized Pick-Up Adults.

Illness & Medications
For our counselors to administer any medication (prescribed or over-the-counter), our facility requires a release from a physician to be kept on file (must include dosing instructions and the physician’s signature) and written parental consent agreeing to the physician’s recommendation.
Parents are requested to inform the school anytime a camper will be absent, but particularly in the case of illness, especially if it is contagious. When advisable, a release form from a physician stating that the camper is cleared for participation in regular activity and is not contagious will be necessary for a camper to re-enter the program. Parents will be advised of any communicable disease to which the camper may have been exposed.
You will be notified (courtesy call) and in some cases asked to pick up your camper if they show any of the following symptoms: signs of respiratory illness, fever greater than or equal to 99.5°F, flushed appearance, diarrhea, rash, nausea, and/or vomiting, watery/inflamed eyes, discharge from the eyes, or general listlessness/malaise. If you are asked to pick up your camper due to illness, you will be expected to pick them up within one hour of the initial phone call.
